Stephen Mathews
Stephen Mathews has more than thirty years' experience leading people development and corporate organisational improvement programmes.
Stephen’s particular area of expertise is helping individuals and groups to improve the way they manage relationships to improve performance. He has gained a reputation for both an effective and efficient approach to Business Psychology through a variety of feedback methods in groups, between peers and in 1:1 mentoring to improve individual levels of satisfaction and the contribution of teams.
Using his unique skill set with board members, senior management teams, and individuals, Stephen enables successful organisational culture change, high performance team development, team performance measurement and valued management and leadership development.
Stephen has worked worldwide, with companies of all sizes, in support of a wide range of business improvement initiatives, such as: Strategy Development and Implementation, Business Excellence, Six Sigma, Process Redesign, and Performance Enhancement. Stephen's business experience spans fields as diverse as: petrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, banking, defence, education, food, engineering, telecommunications, and the public sector.

Client experience includes:
• Change management consultancy to speed the integration of two substantial information provision and publications companies to enable rapid delivery of enhanced strategy. This involved individual and organisational development to overcome resistance, build stakeholder support and resolve competing commitments
• Individual and team development consultancy in a major European electrical engineering company where he worked initially at board level and then in a number of the divisions. The project included in depth interpersonal skills and behavioural awareness training in the Commercial Division to facilitate the merging together of five sales forces. In the HR function the work involved conflict resolution interventions, helping the central HR team to agree strategic goals with their divisional counterparts.
• High performance team training for a telecommunications company needing to dramatically improve the speed to market of new software products. This involved 1:1 coaching and intensive team building sessions to enable the combination of software, marketing and sales personnel to move from working group to functioning team to high performing team.
• Leadership, interpersonal and relationship building skills training on a number of international executive development programmes.
• Conflict resolution work in a Fortune 100 engineering company continuous improvement steering committee
• Consultancy skills for statisticians in one of the world’s leading pharmaceutical companies. This involved coaching them in the identification and development of their interpersonal skills to enable them to play a more proactive role in new product development and clinical trials.
• Change management and statistical training in a major petrochemical company followed by skills training for the company’s sales force to enable them to better sell the resulting improved process capabilities to customers.
• Coaching and training Breakthrough Champions in organisational change, overcoming resistance, building High Performance Teams and gaining stakeholder support in a worldwide electronics company.
• Working with Six Sigma Black Belts to integrate process investigation and analysis with change and transition management skills to build stakeholder support and increase the speed of project delivery.
